Match Report
Poole Town 4ths 231 - 9 (45 overs) Portland 2nds 160 - 7 (45 Overs)
On a breezy day at Canford Arena the skipper again lost the toss for the 9th game on the trot. We were asked to bat on a green looking wicket. After losing an early wicket in stepped George Kilpatrick to make his debut for this season. His first scoring shot was a six to square leg and from thereon the ball disappeared to the boundary on a regular basis. He was eventually out in the 38th over having hit 136 glorious runs to every part of the arena. An excellent innings enjoyed by all. We then had a mini collapse and ended our innings on 231 - 9 with the two Quinns hanging on at the end. The Portland innings started at a fairly rapid rate until the two 'oldies' in Phil Quinn and the skipper managed to quell the flow of runs. Phil ended his spell with figures of 3 - 30 and yours truly with 2 - 20. With good bowling from Michael Porter and Declan Quinn the Portland innings ended on 160 - 7. A good victory by 71 runs and there can only be one MOM in George Kilpatrick.
Poole Town 4ths v Bournemouth 2nds. Chapel Gate 21 st June 2008
With the threat of rain in the air the opposition skipper put us in to bat on a good track at Chapel Gate. Ciaran Quinn and yours truly opened the batting and 165 runs later I was out having scored 81. Ciaran continued his innings and scored a very impressive 90 before being caught going for quick runs. A flurry of wickets then followed in pursuit of quick runs before we finished our innings on 232 - 5.
In reply Bournemouth were always behind the clock before we bowled them out for 185 thereby giving us maximum points from an excellent victory. Good bowling from Ciaran Quinn (2 - 42), Nick Thomson (2 - 36) and myself (4 - 35)
MOM Ciaran Quinn
Poole Town 4ths v Parkstone. Canford Arena 28 th June 2008
For the 7 th time this season I lost the toss and on this occasion we were asked to field. In a somewhat changed bowling attack from the previous week we again applied ourselves really well with Phil Quinn and Dan Farnham bowling well at the start of their innings. However, it was the the three 13 year olds which really impressed in Ben Mogg (1 - 9), Nick Thomson (3 - 45) and Michael Porter (3 - 19). We restricted Parkstone to 170 on a decent wicket with a quick outfield.
In reply we had a good start in yours truly (55) and Francis Kerins (29) before wickets started to tumble at regular intervals. However, on his senior debut Ben Mogg played way beyond his 13 years and guided us to victory with an impressive 21 not out. Excellent performances by all the players giving us a second 20 point haul in two weeks. This team consisted of five 13 year olds and a few 'old sweats' on a thoroughly enjoyable Saturday afternoon.
MOM Ben Mogg for his bowling and batting performances. Well done.
Sat 14th June 2008. Poole Town 4th team v Ferndown 2nds
Ferndown 182 - 9 Poole Town 145 ao
Another disappointing Saturday afternoon at wind swept Canford Arena.
Having lost the toss, yet again, we were asked to bowl on a dry dusty pitch where the bounce was a little eratic. After initially giving away too many extras in our first few overs we recovered well and restricted Ferndown to 182 - 9.
In reply we lost wickets at regular intervals and finished on 145 all out. The only score of note was the skippers 55, although Tom Moysey and James Underwood ran very well between the wickets and accumulated valuable runs.
This team had four under 13s and two under 14s, all of which coped extremely well with what I can only describe with 'over enthusiastic' appealing and 'chat' from some of the Ferndown players.
Man of the match goes to Tom Moysey for his running between the wickets.
Sat 7th June - Cerne Valley 145 - 5 Poole Town 4ths 141 A/O
'Having lost the toss we were asked to bat on an untried and brand new artificial wicket, which turned out to play low and slow. Having said that we cannot blame the wicket for our inept batting performance. We lost wickets at regular intervals showing little, if no application. We were bowled out for 141 in the 28th over of a 45 over match. Need I say more!!
After our interval team talk our bowling turned out to be respectable with good bowling from Nick Thomson 2 - 27, John Watson 1 - 31 and Ben Richards 1 - 8. Having got Cerne struggling at 76 - 6 a long handled specialist finished us off with some hard hitting.
A defeat by 5 wickets but a lesson learnt by our youngsters.
MOM Chris Roberts for his 27.
Sat 31st May 2008 Poole Town 4th 201-4 v Cranborne 2nds 125oa
Having lost the toss, yet again, we were put in to bat on a wet wicket at Canford Arena. This created a hard task in scoring runs and in fact it took us until the 20th over to score a boundary. However, careful batting by the skipper (38) and son Michael Porter (64) and good support from Andy Groome (36no) saw us reach an excellent total of 201 - 4.
Excellent bowling from Andy Groome (4-29), Matt MacDirmid (1- 9) and Nick Thomson (2-27) saw us complete the demolition of Cranborne for 125 and a winning margin of 76 runs.
Well done to 13 year old Michael Porter in scoring his maiden half century and therefore this weeks MOM.
24.05.08
Bridport 2nds 165 - 9 lost to Poole Town 4ths 215 - 8 by 50 runs
Having lost the toss Poole batted first and reached a total of 215 - 8 with good performances from skipper, Dave Porter (90), Dave Richards (42) and James Underwood (22). In reply with a gale force wind behind him, 14 year old Ben Richards bowled superbly with figures off his 5 overs of 5-4-4-2 helping to reduce Bridport to 77 - 8. A mention must also go to 13 year old Nick Thomson who, on his adult debut bowled his left arm spin excellently taking figures of 2 - 23. A stubborn 8th wicket partnership helped Bridport to a final total of 165 - 9. Good fielding from a youthful team and excellent bowling throughout saw us gain our first victory of the season.
