Poole Town U11 South

Thursday 11th June Poole 267/4 vs Parley 279/3

Max, George, Andrew, Jem and Lucas all batted well the Parley bowlers kept a good line and length which made it difficult for our batsmen to get the ball away in our usual fashion. This resulted in some hesitation when running between the wicket. We ended on 267 with Andrew and Jem getting into double figures.

We fielded well and our bowling was good. The match turned on a few slips in the field and near misses, on another day they would have taken wickets. Kieran again taking a great catch and stopping a certian 4. A good game, we are to play them in the cup and we will turn this around.

Top Battsman: Andrew Murray 11, Jem Hai 10 and George Harper 5.
Top Wicket takers: George Harper 2, Lucas Cotty 1.

Thursday 4th June Poole 294/3 vs Wimborne/Colehill 193/9

I was watering my Basil and within a seconds of the water covering the seedlings they gave of this amazing sweet fragrance, they have such attitude. Little seedlings warning me that they are there and are fragile. Not so my U11 team, master cricketers, brilliant catches, numerous stumpings, wicket taking feast and superb fielding.
Moms and Dads you missed a display of cricket excellent beyond their years.

" More than just a game"

George and Max taking the score to 222 after their 4 overs, without the lose of a wicket.
Kieran and Johnathan running between the wicket, taking on the bowlers at every turn.
Andrew and Tom finding the gaps and taking every opportunity to put pressure on the fielding side.
Jem and Lucas scoring in true Twenty20 style, fours coming at regular intervals. 194 for 3

Wimborne/Colehill were confident and came in ready to go after the runs. George and Kieran had other ideas and the wicket began to tumble, Tom and Max showed their determination and Andrew and Lucas finished them off with maiden wickets from Andrew and Lucas. Jem captained with maturity beyond his years and his 3 stumping's and a great catch (not given) changed the course of the match early on.

Well deserved win, played in the greatest of spirits. When ever I am trying to find players or are waiting for replies I will remember this game and know it is always worth it.

Thursday 21st Poole 90 – 2 vs. Corfe Mullen 89 all out

We returned to Corfe Mullen to play our cup match on a bright sunny evening, all the right conditions for a good game of cricket.
Corfe Mullen won the toss and elected to bat. Samuel Greene struck in his first over sending the opening batsman back to the club house for 1 run. Samuel went on to take another wicket in his 4th over, bowling accurately with only one wide. George Harper also claiming a wicket in his first over left Corfe Mullen down 2 wickets for 5 runs. The Corfe Mullen Captain being the only batsman to score freely against a good bowling attack. With Andrew Murray bowling 2 maiden overs, Corfe Mullen was never going to make a great score. Luke Cotty and Tom Robinson each getting wickets, Corfe Mullen had to settle for 89 in their 18 overs.
Great bowling and sharp fielding saw us in with an excellent chance to wrap this game up quickly. The cheers of encouragement from the boundary motivated the players and also kept the spectators busy and amused.

Even after losing a quick wicket due to a run out, we never looked in any trouble. Sensible batting and good running saw Lucas Cotty and Jem Hai retiring after getting 25. Corfe Mullen bowled too many wides and their fielding was not as accurate as ours but a great team with loads of enthusiasm. We overtook their score in the 14 over. Well played boys.

Batting: Lucas Cotty 26, Jem Hai 25, and Andrew Murray 7.
Bowling: Samuel Green 2-19-4, George Harper 1-13-3, Andrew Murray 1-10-4, Lucas Cotty 1-5-2 and Tom Robinson 1-10-2

Match 7th May - Poole 242 vs Corfe Mullen 221

Taking over the U11's at short notice was quite a wakeup call for Susan and I as we had to come to grips a team we had never met before and had no idea how good they were. After a frantic phone around we had a team and ready to play Corfe Mullen. Thank you to all those parents who allowed their boys to play at such short notice, a special thanks to Michael Green who spent the latter half of his Birthday watching his son play cricket in a howling gales and steady rain.

Batsman: Jem Hai 22, George Harper 18, Ciaran Tomsett 10, Sam Greene 5, Tom Robinson 5, Max Burrows 4, Jonathan Griffins 3 and Jonathan Coldstream 2.
Wickets: George 1and Ciaran 3 and Jonathan Coldstream 1.

Our fielding was good for a season starter and we had 3 direct hit resulting in run outs. Our batting and running between the wickets shows promise for a interesting season ahead. Well played guys and lets hope the weather is better for the next match on Thursday.
